Mother's Day Celebration

The Geriatric Society proudly celebrated Mother’s Day with a community outreach event at Massy Stores Alyce Glen, where ornamental, flowering, and fruit plants were distributed to promote home gardening, wellness, and environmental awareness. Supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Massy Stores, the initiative brought people together in a joyful atmosphere of appreciation, community spirit, and healthy living.

100th Birthday Celebration

The Geriatric Society of Trinidad and Tobago proudly celebrated the 100th birthday of Leonora Haynes at the Gordon Old Age Home on 29 April 2026, honouring her lifetime of service, compassion, and dedication as a retired Registered Nurse. Family, friends, and students of Sacred Heart Girls’ RC School joined in the heartfelt celebration, making the occasion a memorable tribute filled with love, gratitude, and community spirit.

Community Programme

The Geriatric Society of Trinidad and Tobago (GSTT) hosted a vibrant multi-generational outreach programme at the Diego Martin North Community Centre, featuring children’s art activities, free health screenings, and wellness services for the community. Visit to Senior Care Homes

The Geriatric Society, together with students of Sacred Heart Girls’ Roman Catholic School, visited local senior care homes in a meaningful intergenerational outreach initiative. Students shared conversations and joyful moments with residents, gaining a deeper appreciation for the wisdom and contributions of older adults while learning the importance of compassion and respect across generations.

Health Fair

The Geriatric Society hosted a community Health Fair at Diwali Nagar, providing free health and wellness services including blood pressure and blood sugar testing, eye screenings, audiometry testing, doctor consultations, and legal advice. The event promoted preventative healthcare and community support, with valuable assistance from healthcare professionals, volunteers, the Hugh Wooding Law School Legal Aid Clinic, UWI medical and nursing teams, and the National Council of Indian Culture.

Flu Vaccination Drive

The Geriatric Society hosted a community Flu Vaccination Drive in Diego Martin to promote public health awareness and protect vulnerable older adults against seasonal influenza. Supported by the North West Regional Health Authority (NWRHA) and the Ministry of Health, the initiative encouraged preventative healthcare within the community.

Christmas Hampers Distribution

The Geriatric Society of Trinidad and Tobago visited seven senior care homes across Tunapuna, Tacarigua, and Arima during the Christmas season, distributing gift hampers and essential items to elderly residents. The team also shared Christmas carols and prayers, reflecting GSTT’s commitment to compassion, community outreach, and spreading joy to older adults during the holidays.

Mother's Day Celebration

In honour of Mother’s Day, the Geriatric Society spread joy and appreciation throughout the community by distributing 100 free lunch boxes and 150 decorative plants to members of the public.

The initiative celebrated the love, care, and strength of mothers while promoting kindness, gratitude, and community connection.

GSTT Christmas Celebration

Water Aerobics

The Geriatric Society of Trinidad and Tobago (GSTT) promotes healthy and active living by raising awareness about the benefits of water aerobics for physical and mental well-being. Water aerobics provides a safe, low-impact cardiovascular workout that helps improve heart health, strengthen muscles, increase flexibility, and reduce stress, making it especially beneficial for older adults. Through initiatives like these, GSTT encourages the community to embrace healthier and more active lifestyles.

Sip & Paint and Medical Health Camp

The Geriatric Society of Trinidad and Tobago (GSTT) hosted a successful Sip & Paint and Medical Health Camp event to promote creativity, wellness, and community engagement. Vegetable Plant Seeds distribution

The Geriatric Society of Trinidad and Tobago (GSTT) distributed four varieties of vegetable plant seeds to approximately 300 members of the public, with special focus on older adults, during the Corpus Christi celebrations at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Port of Spain.

This initiative encouraged healthy living, home gardening, and community engagement while promoting the importance of nutrition and sustainable practices among older adults and the wider community.

Health Education

Christmas Hampers Distribution

The Geriatric Society of Trinidad and Tobago (GSTT) visited nine geriatric homes and distributed 120 Christmas gift hampers to residents during the festive season.

The hampers included essential items such as provisions, fans, blankets, towels, and other household necessities aimed at bringing comfort, care, and joy to older adults. Through this initiative, GSTT continued its mission of supporting and uplifting the elderly community throughout Trinidad and Tobago during the Christmas season.

October 16th 2023

On October 16th, 2023, the Geriatric Society of Trinidad and Tobago (GSTT) was officially launched at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Port of Spain. The event marked the beginning of GSTT’s mission to support and advocate for older adults, while honouring senior citizens for their valuable contributions to the community.
