Ageing is the third stage in the human life cycle, and it may be challenging, but let us celebrate it as an accomplishment and  achievement of human development. Ageism, which is the stereotyping, prejudice and discrimination against older people, must end now and forever, as our rights do not change as we age. Aging is a natural part of life, and it is not something that we should worry about. Everybody in the world ages and it should be considered a blessing.

To meet the healthcare needs of our elderly population across Trinidad and Tobago, we inaugurated the Geriatric Society of Trinidad and Tobago in October 2023. Considering and making policies and changes in our health and social care system as we age is crucial to provide comfort and enjoyment in our later years. No matter where we come from, irrespective of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, a good rapport between doctors and patients is fundamental to providing high-quality healthcare.

Our healthcare professionals are obligated in providing specialized care and service to our older adults. We aim to enhance the health, independence, and quality of life of older adults by focusing on their physical, psychological, and social well-being. Our goal is to provide health and supportive care without compromise to all older adults in the nation’s community, enabling them to lead active and happy lives.
